Sandiye Rae became an integral part of the Sacramento community during her 20+ years shining shoes for travelers passing through Sacramento's international airport. You never know who you'll meet when you spend a lot of time in an airport! The list of notable people whose shoes have been shined by Sandiye and her staff is quite a long one. We don't want to shamelessly name-drop, but take a look at the gallery and see how many you can recognize!
In 2010, the County announced plans to put the shoeshine service facilities offered in the airport up for competitive bid and a Request for Proposal (RFP) was announced. The contract was awarded to a large, nationwide chain and Sandiye found herself professionally adrift for the first time in her life. Staying true to her sunny disposition, Sandiye set out to forge her own new opportunities, and to her credit, that's just what she did. In the years since leaving the airport, Sandiye has set up not one, but three separate locations in the downtown Sacramento area where she provides outstanding shoeshine services to any and all who appreciate the "little pep in your step" that a good shoeshine can provide. Sandiye also created a shoe drop-off station for anyone who works in the Renaissance Tower (aka the Darth Vader Building).
